2024 was a monumental year in sport. We saw world record after world record at the Paris Olympics, experienced heartbreak at EURO 2024, and witnessed an unlikely return to the ring for boxing legend Mike Tyson. It’s safe to say last year set the bar high, but 2025 looks set to be another fantastic year for sports fans. So, keep reading as we walk you through the unmissable events in the sporting calendar 2025. Every minute of the action will be available to watch at all Wing Kingz locations, so get booked in to secure your spot.

Sporting Calendar 2025: Dates To Remember

There’s a lot to look forward to in the sporting world this year. Having lifted the trophy last time round, England’s Lionesses go into this summer’s Euros as second-favourites behind Spain. Could they join Germany as the only teams to win back-to-back Women’s Euros? Similarly, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to make it three in a row as they take on the Philidelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. January

2025 is already off to a flying start, as we were spoilt for sporting action in January. In the first week of the year, we saw Luke Littler claim his maiden World Darts Championship victory at just 17 years old. He beat three-time-champ Michael van Gerwen 7-3 to become the youngest world champion in darts history. That set the tone for a fantastic month of sport, and these were a couple of the highlights:

    Australian Open

Melbourne knows how to put on a show, so the first tennis grand slam of the year is always an exciting one. Before the tournament, all eyes were on Carlos Alcaraz as he looked to become the youngest man in history to complete a career grand slam. But it was the impenetrable Jannik Sinner and fearless Madison Keys who stole the show. Sinner proved to us why he’s world number one with a straight-sets victory over Alexander Zverev in the final that capped off a near-perfect tournament for the Italian. Meanwhile, Madison Keys was busy causing major upsets in the Women’s bracket. She took down the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, and number two, Iga Swiatek, to claim her first-ever grand slam title.
    6 January – 26 January

    Women’s Ashes

It was a brutal month for England’s cricketers in Australia, as the hosts ran out 16-0 winners against poor opposition. Women’s cricket in Australia and England have been heading in opposite directions for a few years now, with England steadily declining in quality for at least the last 18 months. The result has prompted the England and Wales Cricket Board to carry out a ‘thorough and honest review’ of the team.
    12 January – 2 February

    February

You can expect to see lots of hard hits in February as American football and rugby take centre stage. If you’re looking for something different, the Invictus Games take place from 8 February- 16 February. This event involves injured, sick, and wounded military personnel competing in a wide range of sports.

    Men’s Six Nations

The men’s Six Nations, one of the most anticipated rugby tournaments in the world, takes place throughout February. Reigning champions Ireland will need to see-off favourites France if they want to keep hold of their crown. Meanwhile, Wales look to end their 13-game losing streak and avoid the wooden spoon.
    31 January – 15 March

    Super Bowl LIX

The 59th edition of the Super Bowl will see the Philadelphia Eagles going head-to-head with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Super Bowl is always more than just a sport; it’s a huge event. This year, Kendrick Lamar will headline the halftime show, having just picked up five more Grammys to add to his collection. We’ll be showing Super Bowl LIX at all of our restaurants, so you can enjoy the game with a buzzing atmosphere.
    9 February

    March

In March, it feels like the world of sport is warming up for the most exciting months of the year. The Champions League is starting to reach the business end at this time of year, as Europe’s best football teams face off in the round of 16.

    Start Of The F1 Season

After an agonising three-month break, the 2025 F1 season gets underway with the Australian Grand Prix. This season promises to be one of the most exciting yet, with six rookies on the grid, three teams expected to compete for the title, and let’s not forget Lewis Hamilton wearing the red of Ferrari!
    14 March

    World Athletics Indoor Championships

Towards the end of March, some of the biggest names in track and field will head to China for the World Athletics Indoor Championships. The main event to look out for here will be the 60m sprint, where Olympic champs Noah Lyles and Julien Alfred are both expected to take gold despite a highly competitive field.
    21 March – 23 March

    Sprint Start

    April

With spring in full flow, a couple of the more sophisticated sports take the spotlight: golf and horse racing. However, if pub sports are more your style, you can still enjoy the International Darts Open and the 2025 Tour Championship in snooker, which both conclude in April.

    The Grand National

The bookie’s favourite day of the year falls on 5 April this time around as the world’s most famous horse race returns. 34 horses and jockeys will gear up to take on the 4 1/3 mile course, with the winner getting £500,000. All eyes will be on I Am Maximus as he aims to become the first horse to win three Grand Nationals in a row.
    5 April

    The Masters

Regarded by many to be the pinnacle of golf, The Masters will captivate golf lovers for three days in the middle of April. Once again, the famous Augusta National Golf Club will play host to the biggest names in golf as they compete for the prestigious green jacket. Can McIlroy finally get his hands on the trophy, will Scheffler continue his dominance, or will we see an upset?
    7 April – 13 April

    Grand National

    May

May is so often the best month for sport, and this year looks set to be no different. The football season reaches its climax and the second tennis grand slam of the year gets underway in France. Combine that with the world-famous Monaco Grand Prix, and you’ve got a top-tier month of sport.

    FA Cup Finals

The men’s and women’s FA Cup finals take place in May. In the men’s game, Liverpool are the runaway favourites as the league leaders aim to win the tournament for the second time in three years. As for the women, it’s tough to look past Chelsea adding a 6th trophy to their cabinet.
    Women’s: 18 May
    Men’s: 25 May

    French Open

If we’re going to see Jannik Sinner falter at any grand slam this year, it’s most likely to be the French Open. The world’s number one is almost unstoppable on hard courts, but he has looked slightly weaker on clay courts in the past. Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, is a clay court specialist, and he’ll be aiming to add a second Roland Garros title to his name. In the women’s tournament, Iga Swiatek is the big favourite to win the title, having won four in the past.
    25 May – 8 June

    Monaco Grand Prix

Monaco may not be the most exciting race on the F1 calendar, but the glitz and the glam still make it an unmissable event. Some of the biggest celebs in the world will be seen on the grid before the high-stakes race takes place through the city’s narrow streets.
    25 May

    European Football Finals

Each year, May brings the highlight of the sporting year for many football fans as the European knockout tournaments are decided. The Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League finals will all take place throughout the month, and English teams are favourites for each of them.
Men’s Champions League Final: 31 May
Men’s Europa League Final: 21 May
Men’s Conference League Final: 28 May

    Champions League Night

    June

By June, the football season has drawn to a close. So, fans will be looking elsewhere for their sport fix. Luckily, there are some huge sporting events to keep you entertained during the summer break.

    NBA Finals

After a long and gruelling season, the best teams from the Eastern and Western conferences will meet in the NBA finals at the start of June. This season has already thrown up some massive shocks, with Luka Doncic being traded to the LA Lakers. But the Boston Celtics remain favourites to retain the title they won last year.
    5 June – Potentially 22 June

    Wimbledon

As always, tennis’ most famous tournament will grab the attention of millions this summer. It’s an exciting time in the tennis world as dozens of players compete to fill the shoes of recently retired greats like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Wimbledon will be a chance for the world’s best to make a real statement.

What better way to cool down from the summer heat than a cold pint and some fantastic sport? That’s exactly what we’ve got in store at every Wing Kingz location in July, including our sports bar in Canterbury.

    Women’s EURO 2025

After last summer’s heartbreak in the men’s EURO, the Lionesses will be looking to go one step further. But if they’re to win their second straight European Championship, they’ll have to get the better of Spain, who are favourites to win the tournament following the triumph of their men’s team last year.
    2 July – 27 July

    British Grand Prix

In the first week of July, F1 returns to Silverstone. In recent years, the British Grand Prix has soared in popularity, and last year, a record-breaking 480,000 people attended the event. Lando Norris, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will all be hoping to impress in front of their home crowd.
    4 July – 6 July

    Tour De France

Widely regarded as one of the toughest sporting events in the world, the Tour De France will be ongoing for almost the entirety of July. 176 cyclists from all over the world will compete in 21 stages and travel a total distance of 2,200 miles. Can anyone displace last year’s champ and current favourite, Tadej Pogacar?
    5 July – 27 July

    Tour De France

    August

As the summer begins to wind down, the sport is only heating up at Wing Kingz. This action-packed month sees the return of the Premier League and the biggest tournament in Women’s rugby.

    Premier League 2025/26

    Women’s Rugby World Cup

This year, England will host the 10th edition of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Having won the tournament six times already, New Zealand is always the team to look out for, but England currently sits at the top of the world rankings.
    22 August – 27 September

    Tennis US Open

The final grand slam of the year has thrown up some shocks in recent years. In 2023, 19-year-old Coco Gauff claimed her first grand slam title, and in 2021, British qualifier Emma Radacanu came from nowhere to win her first title. If this year’s US Open is anywhere near as exciting as some of the recent editions, we’re in for a treat!
    24 August – 7 September

    Tennis shadow

    September

As the transfer window will have recently closed, football fans will be getting used to their new-look teams throughout September. Elsewhere, two of the biggest tournaments in track and field and golf will take place.

    World Athletics Championships

The World Athletics Championships in Tokyo is the competition many of the world’s best athletes will have their eye on this year. Expect world records to break, rivalries to come to a head, and stars to be born.
    13 September – 21 September

    Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest events in the golfing calendar, and it regularly attracts viewers who have little interest in golf. Team Europe and Team USA will go head-to-head in three formats over three days before the winning team is crowned on Sunday. This event generates excitement in a way that few golf tournaments can.
    26 September – 28 September

    Women running

    October

October is one of the quieter months for sport this year, but you’ll still have more than enough to satisfy your sporting appetite. The best Rugby league team in the UK will be crowned, and one of the most exciting F1 races of the year will take place in the US.

    Super League Grand Final

The Super League gets underway at the start of February, and the winner will be crowned in October. It’s difficult to look past Wigan Warriors after a well-deserved title last year. However, Hull KR and Warrington Wolves both look like strong contenders this year.
    11 October

    Austin Grand Prix

Across the Atlantic, another highlight of the F1 season will be taking place in Texas. The Austin Grand Prix was a decisive one last season, with Verstappen pipping Norris to a podium finish following a five-second time penalty for the Brit. Fans will be hoping for more excitement as F1 returns to Austin for the 13th time.
    17 October – 19 October

    Red bull f1

    November

November begins with Guy Fawkes night, but those won’t be the only fireworks on display throughout the month as we’ll be treated to an action-packed sports schedule. From Bologna to Brisbane, here’s what you can expect:

    Davis Cup

Year after year, the Davis Cup increases in popularity, and this year could be the biggest yet. While tennis is usually a solo sport, in the Davis Cup, players compete in teams representing their nation. In November, the final eight teams left in the tournament will compete in Bologna to be crowned champions.
    18 November – 23 November

    Men’s Ashes

By November, you’ll likely be sick of the British weather already. So, if you’re looking for an escape, the Men’s Ashes will be taking place in sunny Australia. And, if it’s anything like the last men’s Ashes, there will be drama!
    21 November – 8 January

    December

The festive season is always jam-packed in the sporting world, and this year is no different. You can expect a busy Premier League schedule, a party atmosphere at the World Darts Championship, and a highly competitive Africa Cup Of Nations.

    World Darts Championship

Darts is currently at an all-time high in terms of popularity, and it’s almost entirely down to Luke Littler. The 18-year-old is the reigning Premier League champion and just won his first World Darts Championship title. He’ll be looking to follow it up with another one this year, but those like world number one, Luke Humphries, will be desperate to make sure that doesn’t happen.
    15 December – 3 January

    Africa Cup Of Nations

At the end of December, 24 countries will compete in the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Morroco. AFCON always brings amazing and dramatic goals and immaculate vibes. It’s the perfect way to end the year.
