2022 Super Bowl LVI
Date: Friday 13th February 2022
Our guide starts with one of the greatest in the game, The Super Bowl. In just a few weeks, 2022 marks the 56th Super Bowl, which will be hosted at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, for the first time. This showpiece event in the sporting calendar currently has the Green Bay Packers as the favourites to win, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs. At halftime, as always, you’ll enjoy a star-studded show, courtesy of Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. This is a game you most definitely won’t want to miss!
Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics
Date: Friday 4th February 2022 – Sunday 20th February 2022
After a top-class performance from Team GB in Tokyo last year, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are certainly looking promising. Kicking off on the 4th of February, this will be Beijing’s first Olympic return since hosting the Summer event back in 2008. Along with Beijing, athletes will also be competing in neighbouring towns in the Hebei province.
While ongoing pandemic restrictions mean that only those who reside in China’s mainland will be permitted to attend, every game will be televised, allowing you to keep up to date with the action!
Six Nations Rugby Championship
Date: Saturday 5th February 2022 – Saturday 19th March 2022
This year marks the 23rd Six Nations Championship, by far one of the most important sporting events in the rugby calendar. Reigning champions Wales will be accompanied by England, France, Ireland, Italy and Scotland, who will each compete for the title.
The 15 match championships will take place from the start of February through to March, with round one consisting of:
- Ireland v Wales: 5th February, 2:15pm
- Scotland v England: 5th February, 4:45pm
- France v Italy: 6th February, 3:00pm
So far, France has been named the favourites to win with a 6/4 pre-tournament odd, with current title holders Wales at only 7/1. It’s only a matter of time before we see whether our predictions are right!
Grand National Festival
Date: Saturday 9th April 2022
The Randox Grand National Festival 2022, as always, will be hosted at the renowned Aintree Racecourse, with the much-loved Saturday showpiece taking place on the 9th of April. Known as one of the world’s most famous race events, did you know that the Grand National Festival is watched by over 500 million people across more than 140 countries?
UEFA Champions League Final
Date: Saturday 28th May 2022
Staged at the Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final is a must-see game for any football fan. This year will mark the 67th season of Europe’s premier club football tournament, with Chelsea being the last to lift the cup. So far, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are sitting at the top as favourites to win, with Liverpool and Chelsea following not too far behind. It’s looking as if it will be a close call, but we’re definitely looking forward to seeing how the tournament unfolds!
Heineken Champions Cup Final
Date: Saturday 28th May 2022
If you’re a rugby lover over football, then the 28th of May will be a much-anticipated date for another reason – the Heineken Champions Cup Final. With the 2022 final being held at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France, this top-tier competition is targeted at countries whose national teams also compete in the Six Nations Championships. The current title holders are Stade Toulousain, but who will you be cheering on this year?
The NBA Finals
Date: Thursday 2nd June 2022 – Sunday 19th June 2022
Known as the top-level competition in the world of basketball, The NBA Finals are always guaranteed to deliver must-see games. Last year, we saw the Milwaukee Bucks win their first NBA championships in 50 years, but so far, it’s not looking as if the team will be favourites to win. Most recent stats have shown that Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers have been stealing the top spots, both with impressive track records.
So, if you’re a basketball fan, why not head down to our restaurant in Milton Keynes to watch the games while enjoying our diner-inspired menu for the ultimate American experience?
The Championships, Wimbledon
Date: Monday 27th June 2022 – Sunday 10th July 2022
Whether you follow tennis or not, no one can deny that Wimbledon is one of the most prominent events in the sporting calendar. As the oldest, most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, the greatest players from across the globe travel to London each year to compete for the title and unbelievable cash prize.
While this year, legendary players including Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will, of course, be in the run in to win, world-famous newcomers such as Emma Raducanu will be making the tournament even more exciting!
Rugby League World Cup
Date: Monday 27th June 2022 – Sunday 10th July 2022
Yet another unmissable event for rugby fanatics. Having been postponed from 2021 due to COVID-19, it feels as if we’ve been waiting forever for the Rugby League World Cup to finally arrive, even more so seeing as we’re the hosts! The league will consist of 61 matches, including the men’s, women’s and wheelchair World Cup, with our home nation getting things underway against Samoa at St James’ Park.
As the current cup holders, Australia will remain keen favourites to win, not to mention the fact that they also hold the crown for the most titles, having lifted the trophy an astonishing 11 times!
FIFA 2022 World Cup
Date: Monday 21st November 2022 – Sunday 18th December 2022
Our year of sporting milestones ends with what many will see as, by far, the most important – the FIFA 2022 World Cup, of course! After what can only be described as a stellar performance from The Three Lions in the Euros, the anticipation couldn’t be higher.
Hosted by Qatar, the FIFA 2022 World Cup will commemorate change. Not only will it be the first-ever World Cup held in an Arab state but also the last to have only 32 teams. The final, scheduled for the 18th December, will be held at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, which has an immense 80,000-capacity. While we can be sure that there will be no need for reminders, don’t worry, we’ll make sure you have plenty of time to get prepared for watching the game at Wing Kingz!
